A MESSAGE FROM THE OUTGOING PRESIDENT

Dear USHP Members,

As my term as President of the Utah Society of Health-System Pharmacists comes to a close, I want to take a moment to reflect on what we have accomplished together and express my sincere gratitude to those who made it possible.

Over the past year, USHP has taken important steps to refine and define our strategic priorities around Advocacy, Collaboration, Education, and Innovation, providing a clearer roadmap for the future of our organization. These priorities guided efforts to expand member engagement through new networking opportunities, including our pharmacy book clubs and the recent paint night event, while continuing to provide valuable continuing education through our CE series and Annual Meeting. We also strengthened our advocacy efforts on legislative and regulatory priorities impacting pharmacy practice, continued to refine and grow our internship program, launched a new MPJE resource page to support student pharmacists and residents, and advanced initiatives to educate students about pharmacy technician career pathways while increasing technician representation and engagement within USHP leadership committees. These accomplishments reflect the dedication and creativity of our members and volunteers.

Most importantly, I want to thank our Board members, committee chairs, and committee volunteers. While the Board provides direction and oversight, the real work of USHP happens within our committees. Countless hours of volunteer effort, collaboration, and passion have driven every initiative, event, and accomplishment this year. I am deeply grateful for your commitment to advancing health-system pharmacy and serving our members.

Finally, I would like to welcome our incoming Board members and congratulate Elizabeth Bald as she assumes the role of USHP President. Elizabeth is an exceptional leader, and I am excited to see the organization continue to grow and thrive under her leadership. Thank you for the privilege of serving as your President. It has been an honor to work alongside so many dedicated pharmacists, technicians, students, and supporters, and I look forward to what the future holds for USHP.

With gratitude,

Conor Hanrahan, PharmD, MHA, MS, BCPS, CPHQ

President, Utah Society of Health-System Pharmacists (2025-2026)

Legislative and Advocacy Updates

Meet our USHP Delegates

USHP delegates Stephanie Barrus, Shannon Inglet, and Jeff Olson represented Utah at this year’s ASHP House of Delegates. The House approved 16 policy recommendations, returned two resolutions for further study, and accepted two new business items addressing pharmacist clinical decision-making and health care disparities. Key policy areas included public health and vaccination access, technology and workforce development, safe medication practices, tobacco cessation, telehealth, and evidence-based pharmacy practice. Many of these initiatives began as member-submitted proposals, so USHP encourages members to share their ideas and perspectives with our delegates as we prepare for next year’s policy cycle.

2026 USHP Annual Meeting Highlights

USHP Committee Updates

  • Programming Committee

The Program Committee works to create meaningful educational opportunities for pharmacists and technicians throughout Utah. From developing engaging CE topics to coordinating ACPE accreditation, the committee helps make professional development accessible to our members. This fall, the Rolling Resident CE Series will return in November, and the Members-Only Book Club will continue with a virtual session planned for November or December. The Programming Committee is always looking for new voices and welcomes students, residents, technicians, and pharmacists from all practice settings to get involved!

  • Technician Committee

The USHP Technician Committee is dedicated to supporting and advancing the vital role of pharmacy technicians across Utah. We’re excited to bring back the Technician Track at the 2026 Annual Meeting in September, featuring technician-focused CE opportunities such as the 340B Mini Bootcamp: Data Accuracy and Reporting and Advancing the Pharmacy Technician Role. Through advocacy, collaboration, and education, the committee works to ensure technicians have a strong voice within USHP and opportunities to grow in their careers. We invite pharmacy technicians to get involved and help shape the future of the profession!

  • Advocacy Committee

The USHP Advocacy Committee keeps a close eye on legislative developments that may impact the practice of pharmacy in Utah and across the nation. The committee helps keep USHP members informed about important bills and encourages pharmacists and students to stay engaged in the legislative process. Check out the 2026 Pharmacy Bill Tracker to follow current legislation, and use Utah’s legislator lookup tool to find and connect with your state representatives.

  • Communications Committee

The USHP Communications Committee keeps members informed and engaged by sharing updates on pharmacy practice, advocacy efforts, educational opportunities, committee activities, and upcoming events through newsletters, email, social media, and the USHP website. Current efforts focus on increasing member engagement, highlighting member accomplishments, and improving communication across the organization. If you enjoy communication, networking, and promoting the profession, consider joining the Communications Committee and helping strengthen connections across the Utah pharmacy community.

A note from our outgoing Co-Chair:

As I conclude my time as Co-Chair of the USHP Communications Committee, I want to express my sincere gratitude to the committee members, board leadership, and USHP members who have supported our efforts to strengthen communication and engagement across the organization. Serving in this role has been a rewarding opportunity to connect with pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, residents, students, and leaders throughout Utah.

Over the past 2 years, I have been proud to support initiatives that highlighted member accomplishments, promoted educational opportunities, shared advocacy efforts, and helped keep our membership informed and connected. Effective communication plays a vital role in fostering professional collaboration and advancing our profession, and I am grateful to have contributed to that mission.

I am excited to welcome Aleese Palfreyman as the incoming Chair and look forward to seeing the committee continue to grow and innovate. Thank you to everyone who has participated in committee activities, contributed content, and engaged with our communications. Your involvement makes our organization stronger. I encourage members who are interested in networking, professional engagement, and sharing the great work happening across our state to consider joining the Communications Committee.

Thank you for the opportunity to serve. It has been an honor to support USHP and its members.

    -Trenna Weathers, PharmD

A note from our incoming Chair:

After serving as Co-Chair for the past two years, I am excited to transition into the Chair role. I have truly enjoyed helping grow engagement across our social media platforms and connecting members throughout the state. I am especially excited to work alongside our new Communications Liaison as we continue to expand our reach and share the incredible work being done by pharmacist technicians and students across Utah. I look forward to building on the progress we've made, increasing engagement, highlighting important events, and continuing to showcase the outstanding contributions of our profession.

    -Aleese Palfreyman, PharmD

  • Membership Committee

A big thank you to everyone who joined us for the Annual Social at Murray Park on September 25. It was wonderful to spend time together outside our usual professional settings - and to get to know others in the pharmacy community. We loved seeing so many USHP members at the Annual Meeting and appreciate everyone who continues to make USHP such a great professional community.

We also enjoyed gathering in June at the Neighborhood Hive for a Paint Night. There are so many creative people in this group - which was fun to see on display!

There's plenty to look forward to in the coming months, particularly making dinner for the Ronald McDonald House Family Room at Primary Children's Hospital on November 12. More details will be sent in the coming months, but please reach out to membership@ushp.org if you are interested in joining us that evening.

The Membership Committee is continuing to think of new ways to help members connect, get involved, and find value in their USHP membership. As always, think about a colleague, friend, resident, or student who might benefit from being part of USHP—or someone who would be a great addition to one of our committees. A personal invitation can go a long way, and growing our membership and volunteer community helps strengthen USHP for everyone.

Thank you for being part of USHP and for helping us build a connected, engaged pharmacy community!

  • Nominations & Awards Committee

The Nominations & Awards Committee plays an important role in shaping the future of USHP by facilitating elections and recognizing outstanding contributions to health-system pharmacy. Through selecting future leaders and celebrating those who go above and beyond, the committee helps highlight the dedication, leadership, and innovation that strengthen Utah’s pharmacy community. We are proud to recognize the incredible individuals who continue to make an impact in the profession. Congratulations to all of our 2025 and 2026 award winners!
