A MESSAGE FROM THE OUTGOING PRESIDENT

Dear USHP Members, 

As my term as President of the Utah Society of Health-System Pharmacists comes to a close, I want to take a moment to reflect on what we have accomplished together and express my sincere gratitude to those who made it possible. 

Over the past year, USHP has taken important steps to refine and define our strategic priorities around Advocacy, Collaboration, Education, and Innovation, providing a clearer roadmap for the future of our organization. These priorities guided efforts to expand member engagement through new networking opportunities, including our pharmacy book clubs and the recent paint night event, while continuing to provide valuable continuing education through our CE series and Annual Meeting. We also strengthened our advocacy efforts on legislative and regulatory priorities impacting pharmacy practice, continued to refine and grow our internship program, launched a new MPJE resource page to support student pharmacists and residents, and advanced initiatives to educate students about pharmacy technician career pathways while increasing technician representation and engagement within USHP leadership committees. These accomplishments reflect the dedication and creativity of our members and volunteers. 

Most importantly, I want to thank our Board members, committee chairs, and committee volunteers. While the Board provides direction and oversight, the real work of USHP happens within our committees. Countless hours of volunteer effort, collaboration, and passion have driven every initiative, event, and accomplishment this year. I am deeply grateful for your commitment to advancing health-system pharmacy and serving our members. 

Finally, I would like to welcome our incoming Board members and congratulate Elizabeth Bald as she assumes the role of USHP President. Elizabeth is an exceptional leader, and I am excited to see the organization continue to grow and thrive under her leadership. Thank you for the privilege of serving as your President. It has been an honor to work alongside so many dedicated pharmacists, technicians, students, and supporters, and I look forward to what the future holds for USHP.

Legislative and Advocacy Updates

Meet our USHP Delegates

USHP delegates Stephanie Barrus, Shannon Inglet, and Jeff Olson represented Utah at this year’s ASHP House of Delegates. The House approved 16 policy recommendations, returned two resolutions for further study, and accepted two new business items addressing pharmacist clinical decision-making and health care disparities. Key policy areas included public health and vaccination access, technology and workforce development, safe medication practices, tobacco cessation, telehealth, and evidence-based pharmacy practice. Many of these initiatives began as member-submitted proposals, so USHP encourages members to share their ideas and perspectives with our delegates as we prepare for next year’s policy cycle.

Your leadership and commitment have helped strengthen USHP and support our members and the pharmacy community. We are also excited to welcome our incoming Board members and look forward to the fresh ideas, energy, and leadership they will bring.
